The next 2-3 uppers that I plan to get are LW barrel profiles.  The CMMG Light Weight uppers look pretty appealing.  Any reason not to love them?  They appear to be top notch.  Sometimes I wonder though if I will be sacrificing any thing (reliability wise) with going with the LW profile barrels as opposed to something heavier?  If it helps I was thinking the 14.5 LW CAR, LW MIDDY, and 20" LW RIFLE uppers.

Thanks,
~Dj

Are you suggesting barrel thickness has something to do with the operation of the gas system?

There is no problem with lightweight barrels. Go get the uppers you want. Heavier barrels are only good for full-auto because they don't heat up as fast, of course they also take longer to cool down as well. I love lightweight barrels, it was the original M-16 design.

I got one of the lightweight 1/7 16" bbls from Bushmaster a while back and have been pretty happy with it.

Only downside I've found is that it's hard to steady in offhand shooting. Other than that the lightweight is great!

Ask anyone who owns both which one they would rather use in a move and shoot, multi-target situation.

As far as reliability, I don't think you'd find any differences. If you think you'll have to pry manhole covers up with your barrel, you might want to go with a very heavy barrel.

Of the four ARs I own my 16" superlight IDF clone is my all time favorite. 5 pounds flat unloaded.
