So yea, out at the range the other day. As always watching the brass to pick it up. I noticed when I am firing, the spent .223 case goes forward, but, when just racking it back with unfired cartridge in the chamber, the bullet goes backwards.

I am pretty sure that is normal, but what causes this to happen? Is it the extra 55 + 25~ gr ?

The weight is probably a pretty good guess. You can change ejection path by adding or removing weight from your recoil system (bolt carrier or buffer).

It is cycling faster so the ejector is throwing the spent brass into your brass deflector and it bouncing off foreward.(Probably)
