So I put my lower together and everything looks great. Buffer tube went right on, got a new castle nut from my local shop and a new sling plate. The plate was a tight fit over the tube but seemed to work fine. Until I got my new upper. I slid the charging handle in the upper and installed it on the lower. Looked great, until I tried to run the handle back.

I clips the damn sling plate and won't go back! Is this common? I forgot to take pics but if it would help I could get it back on and snap a few. Input is appreciated.

Should I smooth the top of the plate out? Take it back? Really curious if I just managed to get the one screwed up plate on the shelf or what?

Without pics to check proper installation I'm going to assume either you got a bad one or you've fallen victim to tolerance stacking.

It's pretty hard to mess up that install so those are my guesses.

I suppose an out of spec lower in the RE placement is possible but it's easier and cheaper to try a new plate first.

Good luck.

Are you talking about an aftermarket receiver end plate with an integral sling mount?

I had one, from CrossTac I think, with the same problem. Grind the top down with a Dremel.

Yah that's what I'm probably going to do. It is aftermarket with a sling loop. Happy to know I'm not the only one that's got a bad one. The lower is definitely in spec. Over 3500 through it before I revamped it. The top lip of the plate is just a smudge taller than the flat spot on the lower right behind the CH. Sucks but oh well. Next time I will try a slightly higher end sling attachment. 12$ I guess you get what you pay for!  Thanks for the quick answers guys.
