I found this pic that sparked my couriousity. http://media.militaryphotos.net/photos/albums/Gulf_War_2_Iraqi_Freedom_Army_Special_Forces/aag.jpg The guy on the right has a halo sight(?) mounted on the right side of his grip but a scope mounted on top. Is the halo mounted there for only QCB or is it just mounted there so he can switch between them quickly(I am grasping at straws) |
| I have a Doctor mounted at about 1:30 on my CAR with an ACOG on top. So far, it works great and I can even use it with my swiveling bipod if lying down. That Holo looks like it's mounted at 3:00 though. That seems like it would be much more inconvenient and would probably send some blowback to the operator. I believe that thing on the forend is a UV laser target designator but I definitely could be wrong. |
This sounds right. A lot of guys keep their carry handle on the 3:00 clock rail for safe keepiong. It doesn't have to be a fast change. It just has to not get lost and be readily available so you don't have to dig around in your ruck for it when you need it. |

Based on the paint scheme, it looks like he was running the EO when the weapon was sprayed. Then later switched optics to the newer, unpainted 1, for whatever reason, but retained the EO there. This might simply be a temporary storage of the optic to keep it at hand. /S2 |
