I think the 14.5 pinned and welded is a good max. Over in the MK18 thread you see guys post their AR pistols, some states still don't allow SBR's so some wouldn't be able to play. I just like the idea of a 12.5 noveske crusader for my one day mini recce, John Noveske was quoted as saying that was one of his most accurate barrels.

IMHO, 14.5" - 16" is the definition of what a recce gun is. Therefore, it's gotta be sub-14.5" for it to fall into the mini-recce category. But that's just me.

SBR only also means no 13.7 pin/welds too...Don't get rid of the 13.7s!

Even though my "Recon Scout" or Mini Recce is on a SBR lower, it's a 14.5" 1/7 SS mid length without flash suppressor pinned (it's a bi-lock),
and I don't especially want to give up any more velocity. After all, it is supposed to have a moderate range capacity. The 14.5" with SpecWar 2 suppressor and bright 5.5X Acog is a pleasure to shoot and unusually quiet perhaps due to the gas system timing and how that works with the suppressor. Hornady 75gr T2 556 ammo works very well and the gun gives excellent groups. I don't know if it's the best idea to push all the guns in this classification to SBR status. |

12.5" Mini Recce is Best Mini Recce

The MK18 thread has the traffic to stay though because let's be real everyone wants to see what pictures of group, bat, cag, marsoc in the wild they can see. Rifles based off of SOPMOD stuff will also get traffic. The RECCE thread traffic because 1. SOPMOD 2. Most people run rifles now a days that fit the RECCE guidelines. I say keep 14.5 for traffic, I still want to get my noveske'd out 12.5 one day but for now I'm stuck with my 14.5 pinned.

would a 14.5" with a otb mount fit the guidelines of a "mini recce" I just got my sbr stamp in and planning on going this route when my suppressor stamps clear.

It'll be used for everything from hunting to target shooting out to ~400 yards and a few training classes a year. I'm leaning towards a 12.5" BCM factory upper with the new 10" MMR coming later this year, but also tossing around the idea of building an unpinned 13.7" Noveske middy on a BCM upper with a 13" Geissele Mk8. The latter would cost almost double and I'm afraid it wouldn't feel any smaller or maneuver any easier than my 14.5" gun, which still feels like a full-length rifle (because it is). But, it would be ~1.5" shorter than my 14.5" with an A2 sized muzzle device, while retaining the mid gas and nearly identical ballistics. Both seem very practical for a do-it-all rifle, which is the goal. I kinda want both, but I don't want to pay for both. Here is my 14.5 for sake of the photo thread: http://i.imgur.com/y8u3nJ0.png View Quote But you would be very happy with the 12.5. Plus if you ever wanna suppress it, a 12.5 with a suppressor is a lot easier to manuever then a 13.7 with a suppressor. Just has more options and benefits with the 12.5. At least IMO. |
