I have the viking mount at the 6 o'clock w/ it sticking out to the ejection side of the rifle.  it allows me to use the clicker cap on my pentagon X3 in conjunction w/ my TD VFG.  I've heard good things about the DD mount but can't justify the $60 or whatever they're asking for it.  The only downfall of the viking is that it has three set screws which go directly into the body of the light...I have been told you can keep it from messing up the body by putting shims where the set screws are...haven't tried it and really don't care how my light looks as long as it functions.  It's hard plastic and I've banged it around a few times w/ no probs.

Just snapped a few pix of mine for ya.

YHM has their angled mounts.

Ive used them as flashlight mounts.

I have owned both Viking and DD, I prefer the Viking over the DD. IMHO the DD held the light too far away from the forearm. I use the Pentagon X3 with the momentary switch, mounted at the 3 o'clock position.

I'm a big fan of the DD Offset light mount, and its what I carry on my duty carbine.  I like the idea that the DD mount keeps the light out farther away from the rail, which reduces shadowing off the barrel.  I've got large hands, so the distance when running a VFG doesn't bother me.  I also run it without a VFG and just run my hand out to activate the light.  Pics to illustrate both styles.

I have small hands, so I'm a big fan of how the VTAC keeps the light in very close.

Found a picture of YHM 1-slot offset mount used with the Weaver 1" QuadLock ring. The light looks very close to the body.

The Viking is probably the best in term of pure function. Unfortunately it's also the most cumbersome to put on, adjust and take off. Not to mention it also mars the flashlight body. I like mine and still has it for my G2.

But a light mount must have one important attribute that the Viking and others are missing. The ability to be quickly taken off the rifle when it is otherwise a hinderence and dead weight.

In that aspect only one mount does it all. the Larue. I like it because it is right in the middle of the Viking and DD in term off how far out it places the light itself. It also does not mar the body and locks up absolutely solid yet can be removed easily.

It has taken me 5 mounting platform and half a dozen flashlights (including the SF M900's) to arrive at a weapon mounted light solution and it is the Larue. Expensive but once you go Larue yoy'll never go back.

Does anyone know how the VITAL mount secures the light? - I'm looking at the pictures and I can't quite tell. There's a hole in front of the thumbscrew - maybe a clamp inside the bracket?

Well, got my VITAL mount today.

I'll start a new thread and post some pics at the weekend (when I can get some light)

The body is all plastic and the fixtures are all metal. It's tight on the rail and the ring is tight on a 6P body. The light is retained by a single large grubscrew and can be adjusted or removed without removing the mount.

The body slides onto the rail so if you want to put it on the top rail and you've got an FSB then not so easy.
