I'm looking to get an offset light mount for my ARs. I've looked at the GG&G and while it seems to be high quality, it seems like a lot of money for what it is. I also perused YMH's site and looked at the angled mounts they offer which are much more reasonabley priced. I'll be using either a Surefire 952 or 962.

I recall someone posting their experience with the GG&G a while back but alas, I cannot find it via a search.

I'm 99.9% sure the GG&G will work for me but I'm not so sure about the YHM. I'd appreciate if anyone could share their experiences with either of these mounts.

TIA

I use the YHM mounts.  I have three of them and they work quite well.  It's the only way I can reach my clickie switch comfrtably when I use a TD grip.

While I would recommend the YHM mount, I owuld also urge you to be patient and wait for the Larue SF mount.  In case you haven't seen  it, it replaces the thumbscrew or ARMS mount on a MU light and is already offset which puts it at a similar position to a GG&G offset mount.

The Larue sounds very cool. I'm in no hurry so I will wait. I've been really busy the past 6 months so I'm getting caught up with all the latest and greatest gear. Thanks for the heads up.

will the LaRue Mount be specific to an MU weapons light ONLY?? or will they have one for us cheap bastids that run a G-2/6P??

The one presently being developed is specific to the MU series as it directly replaces either the thumb screw mount or the ARMS throw lever mount.  As for a separate system for  lights without integrated mounts, I wouldn't be surprised if that were being planned as well.

Matt-  I had a GG&G but the cheaper YH worked better for me.  The GG&G seemed to drop the light far off the weapon and it seemed clumsy to me.  The YH works nicely at a lot less money.  Wanna see the LaRue though.   dg

After sleeping on this, the YHM will probably work fine for me. I know Larue makes nice stuff but it will probably be overkill for me.

Now I have a question for anyone who uses the YMH mounts. Which size mount do you have? I know the ARMS mounts only need a few rail spaces to latch on to but having a few more under them will make it more stable.

I will try to link you to another link about an Offset Mount by Viking Tactics, Inc.

See what you think.

Thanks for the link KL01 but I'm looking for a mount with rails. My Surefire M series lights would probably not interface with the Viking mount that well.

I have a GG&G mount, in order to put the the piccatinny rail on instead the pistol, I had to dremil the screw hole on it.  The holes on the interchangable piccatinny rail didn't match with the ones on the actual off side mount.

Thanks for the heads up but I'm looking for a mount that attaches to an RAS and allows me to use the hit the the light's click cap with my thumb while I'm holding onto the RAS' VFG.

Thanks QUIB. That looks like a YHM angle mount. Is it?

Yep, YHM. BF squared me away with it. I'm really happy with the set up now, I just went from tape switch to clicker tailcap and could not be happier.

Surefire has one for their new Scout light. I've been messing with it for a couple days. Its not out yet and I dont know when it will be, but I think it needs some tweaking. But as is, its adjustable in the angle you can have it and is a VERY slick design.

I have the YHM angle mount and it dies work. I do have a few problems. It allows the light to protrude
out away from the rifle a little farther than I like. This allows it to snag on things, makes it so fat it will not fit in my soft case and I have small hands so it is hard to reach. The gunsmith shop Cylinder and Slide just introduced a quick on and off mount that look simular to the Viking mount. It is 59.99 though. Since I dont care about quick on and off I think that Viking mount might just be the ticket...
Thhough I would like to see the larue mount as he normally has good stuff.

Here's a link to one that Brownell's started selling not too long ago. I just use this and an old scope ring to mount mine.

I've got a GG&G offset mount for mine.  I use it to mount my M96 to my SIR.  I also use a Tango Down vert grip.  It works great.  I am extreamly happy with the quality and placement.

Judging from the pics, I think the GG&G will put the light MAYBE 1/8"down and out further than the YHM mount.  (You may have to reach a bit).  I personally find this a non issue even with my smaller hands.  15 minutes of training and it will be second nature.

I believe the GG&G and the YHM mounts will both solve your problems to your satisfaction.

One should note:  My GG&G mount came with two (2) mounting platforms which are swapped out with the supplied allen head.  One is a standard 1913 pic rail.  The other looks to be more like a universal rail so that you may mount something like a Streamlight XM3 or Surefire X200.  This feature may be the reason for the cost increase and may be important depending what type of light you wish to mount according to your range engagements.

I also used the GG & G offset mount worked for me. It allowed mounting closer to weapon than some.
