I've read alot of posts on this site about the lack of QC from Oly but I've always given them the benifit of the doubt because I built my ar with their stripped upper and lower and it turned out great. I just disassembled a buddies Oly AR for refinishing and I was very disappointed. I found many tool marks on the gas block, roll pins, and barrel nut that just shouldn't be there, not on a gun thats supposed to professionally built. He says that it has never been apart so... Anyway, just thought I'd throw this out there. I was going back to them for a 1911 but after seeing the way they built his AR I will never buy parts from them let along a whole gun. |
| This is what a lot of folks who see a lot of AR's say. There's a lot of Oly AR's out there that probably look and work excellent. Problem is there is enough of them that dont look or work so well to make mention of. In the overall view, it may be a small percentage, but the guy that gets the problemed gun which falls in that small percentage cant be expected to see it that way. If you see a lof of good guns, but problem guns are not that uncommon, it doesnt mean the company sucks. But it can mean their QC may be lacking. |
| Late 2004 is the year of the weapon. Its fairly current, has an ace stock and their Firsh handguards as well as a heavy profile SS barrel. The finish on the barrel was showing alot of wear as well as the brass deflector. He is selling the weapon and wants to make it look as good as possible. |

Hey was stationed at Ft lewis, WA at the time so he went to their shop and bought it. The gun had its fair share of abuse but I really doubt that he mangled the teeth on the barrel nut, etc.. I have always been a fan of OLy Arms. I have heard all this stuff brfore from people is the local area (FT Lewis, WA) but I had never seen a firsthand example. |
How did the weapon function? Marred barrel nut, or minor tooling marks just aren't the end of the world to me if the weapon runs great. Knowing how OA prices weapons for the military, you friend probably got a fantastic deal. |
