Found a good deal (I hopehinking.gif) on an Oly upper, complete with heavy buffer, 2 mags, mag block and a barrel that will be introduced to Mr. Lathe before too much longer.  It will be going on my Group Industries RR.  This is also my first 9mm upper.

1.  Is there a difference between a FA bolt/carrier and a semi in an Oly 9mm upper?he
The last question is obviously...where can I get a FA bolt/carrier...if I need one?

YES

2.  If the above answer is "yes", what is the difference?
See how the body closely resembles that of a std AR-15 carrier body... especially at the bottom rear... you need the M16 pattern carrier to to trip the auto-sear.

Try Mark @ Triple Break Products, Atlantic Firearms, and lastly.... Olympic

I never liked the Olympic setup as the ejector keeps breaking.

I understand that not everyone likes the Oly set-up, but for a variety of reasons, many people do like it.  I already own it and had a question about the bolt/carrier which was answered quite well by SBR7_11.  I appreciate his input.

I emailed Triple Break Products and have not gotten a reply.  Any other suggestions?

Also...what about a flash hider?  The latest Brownell's catalog doesn't seem to list one...online anyway.

I'm in the same boat.  I am thinking about drilling and installing two roll pins in the carrier to trip the auto sear, seperated to allow the buffer keeper between them, at the same distance from the rear of the bolt as an M16 carrier lug.  I bought the upper here on ARFCOM and the owner had said the upper would work in FA but he was only going on what the dealer who sold it to him said.  We're trying to resolve that issue before I drill.

Found the flash hider I was looking for in Brownell's, so that is out of the way and I can introduce Mr. Barrel to Mr. Lathe in the next week or so.

Still nothing from Triple Break on email.  I am wondering if they just don't respond, they don't have what I want or what the deal is.  Keep me posted on your roll pin idea and let me know how it works.

I am going out to play with the upper this weekend anyway.

I found this thing on Bushmaster site.  Figured I would give it a try.  If it works, I can have my gunsmith attach it permanantly to the carrier.  If not, I am only out $20 and have pissed away more than that on stupider stuff in the past.http://www.bushmaster.com/shopping/uppers/mmt-0008.asp

If it's what I think it is I know it won't work on the bolt I have.  I had thought of that first thing as well.  The adapter has to go inside the bolt and mine is filled with a machine screw.  The roll pin plan is on hold because I think I have an Oly FA bolt comeing, but I will know soon and let you know.  The upper would be tested on a friends Colt as I am still pending on my Sendra, but I think they are all close enough to tell if this will work or not.  The roll pins will act the same way as the Bushy adapter.  The adapter is only for the Colt style bolt that does not have a full circle back end.  Another more reliable way would be to weld up the under side of your bolt then machine it to spec but I can't weld worth a sh$# so the pin idea apeals to me.
