I know there are a few of you waiting and I also know nothing is real until it's in my hands, but FWIW today Oly charged my credit card for the .45 upper I ordered last June.

The BAZ45 waits patiently in the safe where all the big guns have been making fun of its topless state:

Perhaps that means 45 ACP components (barrels) will start being available.

Oly just told me that even though they said they had the barrels in when I placed my order, they are out of stock now and it could be up to 30 days before I get it. I really wish we could get another supplier for bolts & barrels and cut Oly from the picture entirely.

They (OLY) really seem to have some issues with getting parts and keeping them stocked up.  Ive never understood how the company keeps a float.

Im a owner and big fan of the Glock model but I even had to wait 6.5 months for that.

Please describe what condition the bore was in on your new upper when you got it...

The last batch of Oly barrels had what looks like grey fuzz in the barrel. Oly claimed it was due to some sort of hiccup in the barrel finish process.

You're right, what the hell is that? I got mine last week and it doesn't look like it's very polished and shiny in there. I mean it doesn't look bad or anything, I can't see any obvious defects. Mine's not really fuzzy per se, but it just looks kinda dull under a bright bore light, like its coated or parkerized or something. This is my first Oly barrel so I have nothing to compare it to, but the bore is not shiny like most stainless .45 pistol barrels I've seen. You thinking this might be a problem? Have you seen this before on their previous barrels, TC?

My first thought was did they plug the barrels adequately when they finished the outside. Maybe something in the dipping process got inside the bore. Or was it some kind of error with lubing when they rifled the blanks. I don't know enough about those processes to guess potential issues.

I sent one of the barrels I got back to Oly because the bore looked like it had been shot with corrosive ammo. Before I sent it back I cleaned it several time over a two day period but nothing would help. Oly explained to me that when they lube the barrel for the rifling that if it is not completely removed it becomes baked onto the interior of the barrel during the finishing process. It is the first barrel I have gotten in that condition and the replacement barrel they sent me showed no signs the same problem. Oly told me that they are taking steps to make sure that does not happen again.

My tracking number tells me the upper should be in my hands come Wednesday and I think a bore inspection is on the top of the list of things to do.

TC, Eisman,

You guys think I should send mine back?

The barrel is stainless steel, supposedly. Oly is back to saying 30 days for more barrels. If you send it back you might not see another one for some time. I'd just shoot it and see how well it shoots. Might just be cosmetic and not hinder function at all.

I would keep it even if it doesn't shoot that great. If it doesn't shoot that great, I'd order one from KKF to replace it. Kurt's barrel supplier is not up and running .45 blanks yet but should be before Christmas.

Pisses me off that Oly admits there was some kind of mistake during the rifling of the barrels and yet still sells the f*cked up barrels. I think they are banking on the buyers not noticing. I hate it when manufacturers think buyers are stupid.

I think that if  you shoot a few times that you'll find out that it will clean up the bore. I also believe that it will shoot as well as any of the barrels that have come out from Oly.

I'd be interested in TRWalsh's experience on this.  Mine is that a .45 upper with a brigh shinny bore shot 2"-3" groups at 50 yards.  A 10mm upper with apparent internal frosting or corrosion shot pie plate sized groups.  The apparent etching into the bore surface didn't seem to "go away" with the firing of at least a limited number of rounds.

Mine is at the UPS center being held for pickup.  Perhaps I'll have some input by this weekend.

I just got a notice that my kit has been shipped.
I called them today and they told me they had 20 45cal barrels in stock.

Then screw it. I'm sending that F'ed up barrel they sold me back. They can give me a new one that's not parkerized inside or whatever.

It's in, and the bore looks nice and shiny.  I can't see anything to gripe about.

I have gotten three barrels in this week. All three have come in with bright shiny bores.
I think that whatever issues Oly had with their barrels has been solved.

I think that is the basis for Oly's business model.

Now if only they'd ship bolt carriers that would fit into an upper receiver.  I've been sanding on one all day and it is still way too tight.
