I'm currently building my first AR (PSA upper, Spike's lower) and need advice on an inexpensive optic. I've read multiple posts and all seem to say something different. I am considering the Vortex Strikefire, PA M4 (which I am told the new model of will be available the end of July), or Sightmark red dot sight. What are the pros and cons of each of these? I was leaning towards the PA but I will have my rifle completed the first week of June and would rather not wait until the end of July for my sight. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I don't have any experience with the other two but I have a sightmark Ultra shot QD on an ar right now with their 3x slide to side magnifier. It is not as good as the eotech I have on my scar but it get the job done. At 100 yards (farthest I've shot through it yet) I can hold a good group, so it holds a zero. One note is I wouldn't put them in anything over 5.56 I had it on my scar 17s before i picked up my eotech and the .308 cracked the glass in the magnifier. It was replaced under warranty no problems but, needless to say it didn't go back in that weapon!

Good luck, let us know what you decide

Try the Burris XTS-135.  It's a very good red dot.

The scope is made by Dong In Optical in South Korea.  That company makes optics used by the Republic Of Korea military.  It's relatively inexpensive and can be had for under $200 while on sale at MidwayUSA.

BTW, the Burris is related to the S.P.O.T. red dot scope (actually an upgraded SPOT)  that was torture-tested by a member on this site.  The rifle it was on ended up breaking before the scope.

I have two of them.  I really like them.

Apparently, South Korean Marines find them acceptable.

I ended up going with something not on my list, the PA M3M. I will post pics once the build is complete.
