Here is where I am right now, looking for some optics to go on a flat-top upper. What I am looking for is something that will be quick to acquire a target in an area such as a grove or other areas where there isn't much clearing. I don't have much experience with any optics other than long range, so I don't really know where to start. Holosight seems good, as does aimpoint or trijcon? As you can see I need lots of help. Thanks in advance.

Go here Optics section and start reading.

I would go w/ either an Aimpoint or EOTech for what you're asking.

And if you're wondering which one you should get....buy or try both.  That's the only way you'll know for certain.

I was in the same boat getting optics for my first flattop and I tried an eotech 511, aimpoint m2, and have had ta01, ta01nsn, and ta31F acogs. To me the acog fit my needs the best as it still has magnification but allows closer range also.
However there is no doubt that a reddot will allow for the fastest target aquisition. I prefered the eotech 511 over the aimpoint m2 as the dot was more defined. In the end it came down to me not being able to adjust to a little floaty red dot haha. I currently run the TA31F that has a nice chevron that shows up bright quick and fast and still allows for precision and longer distances.

It might make a difference to tell you it will be used for animals on the run: rabbits, raccoons, coyotes, fox, etc.. in close situations.

I use my acog for all of the above. For coyotes you will appreciate the extra range if needed. It works great all the way up close too. I must say it has been a bit of a change going from traditional crosshairs to the chevron though. Im used to an intersection of 2 lines so going to the top of a triangle and then open space is different to say the least

Another option you might want to look into is a variable powered optic.

Something like the

Trijicon Accupoint TR-21R
S&B Short Dot
Meopta K-Dot
IOR Valdada
GRSC 1-4
Millet 1-4
etc.

Aimpoints and AGOG's are certainly good but I do not have experience with either.  However, I can say that I love my Eotech 512 as its compact and has a great site window.  I also like my Leupold CQ/T which has a larger reticle than my Eotech and its etched.  It also has 1-3X magnification.

I use a Leupold CQ/T on my bushmaster and it works awesome from up close to out a ways since it has the variable power.
