| I am looking to put optics on my RRA Tac entry but still have a desire to use iron sights in conjuntion. I am looking at ACOG, Aimpoint and EOtech, any advice would be helpful. |
| You can only use iron sight in conjunction with an Aimpoint or EOTech as they have no magnification. The ACOG would have to be removed prior to using your open sights. The EOTech is designed to mount right to a flattop and co-witness with your back up sights with no additional mounts. In my opinion it is the best sight to achieve what you want to do on that type of weapon (entry gun). |
I have a Bushmaster with an A1 upper that I've been thinking of replacing with RRA's UTE tactical upper. I emailed them to ask about how it would work with an EOTech in conjuntion with the iron sights, hoping, like you seem to be, to be able to use the iron sights as well (as a backup). Here's my email and their response:
And their response:
So, take that for what you will. I'm hoping to get some advice on how to proceed myself. |
NOOOOOOO!!!!! Don't do it!!! That thing is even WORSE than the "Tactical Carry Handle". At least with the TCH, if you realize it's not for you, then you can REMOVE it and SELL it! With the "UTE", you're STUCK with that riser. It's a full INCH high, which is WAY too much for most optics. The ONLY quality optic that will work on the UTE and still allow co-witness is the Aimpoint. All the others will be MUCH too tall and block the irons completely. Do yourself a favor... Since you want the EOTech, get the regular FLAT TOP upper. The EOTech will mount directly to that, and co-witness just fine. Then add any of the BUIS that float your boat, whether folding or fixed, and you can thank me ("us" soon I'm sure) later. PLEASE don't get it... you WILL be sorry. |

Hmmm... I don't know on that one. I believe it's the ARMS throw lever products that have had issues with slight differences in uppers, not the simple cross-slot ones. A complete RRA upper from one of the reputable dealers on the EE (ADCO, LegalTransfers) would run you around $90, while a Bushy would be almost TWICE that much. Coming from one of the two dealers mentioned, they'd make it right if an ARMS product didnt fit, and I'm sure that you could probably get them to test a #40 on your upper before they ship it. RRA is good quality stuff. My current AR is a Bushmaster upper and lower with a RRA mid-length barrel, but my next build on the list will be using a RRA upper. I have every confidence that the ARMS throw lever rings I'll be using will work fine. |

Nice shooting. BTW, I just noticed you're from GA. Stop by the Georiga Hometown forum sometime. We'd love to have you join us for a group shoot or something. (Actually, I just want to shoot the Tac Entry. Mark |
