So if all goes well i'll have my first AR up and shooting by weeks end, i opted for a flat top upper with intentions of adding some decent optics. I was just wondering what most people around here consider decent to good quality glass.

I've seen a lot of people like the Aimpoint systems and similar red dot style sights, but i feel like i'd be more comfortable with something that offers magnification (and i dont really have 400-500 to drop on it right now).

so...what are some reccomendations

(I'm gonna keep my flame suite close in case this gets bad)

What are you wanting... something in the 2x7 power range or more, such as a 3x9?

I have an Aimpoint Comp 2 2MOA dot, love it for 0 to 100m shooting, I have an RCO A4 and I have a Tasco Target/Varmit 6-24x42, looking to purchase a Tasco Target/Varmit 3-9x42.  I like the Tasco mil-dot scopes, great low buck budget scopes that have held up to normal wear and tear with a little side of abuse.  At $70 they are good weekend, once a month shooters, wouldn't trust my life on them, but the paper hasn't shot back lately.

A Comp 2 or 3, Aimpoint retails around $325 to Comp 4's are around $700 depending on model, with a magnifier Aimpoint seems like the best deal to me, ACOG's usally run about $700 used and up and retail is around $1k or more new.

I'm never really liked the Eotechs,

BTW: just remember that cheap scopes aren't going to have the same life expectancy as expensive ones and usally break at the worst posible time.

Have you looked at the Burris fullfield tactical series? Spent last weekend shooting with them, a 2-7 on a 16" and the 4.5-14 on a 20". Both worked great, positive adjustments, excellent optical clarity, and the price can't be beat for the quality.
