Both my Ar's have A1 sight set-ups. I wanted to use an optic because of my old eyes (72) , so I bought a Tru-Glo Red Dot  and mounted it on the carry handle. That doesn't work for me because of  cheekweld problems.
Not so bad on my SP1 but not good at all with my carbine stock.

I then purchased a cantilever mount and tried that. It worked well for the optic but screwed up my zero with the A1 sight when looking through the optic. The POI was about 12" low at 25 M.through the optic but zeroed with the optic removed.

So now I am thinking of getting an EOTECH 512 and mounting it the same way. Do you guys think this will work out?
Will I get a refaction when looking through the EOTECH using the irons like I did with the TRUGLO and cause my irons not to be zeroed?

The EOTech would be a better choice and you really shouldn't have zero issues (as long as you never remove the mount/sight from the gun), but honestly I would just buy a flat top upper for one gun and keep the other A1 only.  A flat top upper receiver only costs about $100.

But I never saw the cant mount as a legitimate answer to the question of optics on a carry handle.

Couple things.
1) the EOtech needs a special carry handle mount to mount forward of the handle and still allow the use of the BUIS.  The EOtech body will block the BUIS if you just use a standard ARMS#39+ or similar mount.  So make sure you buy one that allows adjustments made for the EOTech.  I think PRI sells one as well as Ben Coolie (sp?).

2) Once again the forward mounting height requirement needs clearance down, so Fatty M4 type handguards and some thicker Quad rails will not allow the BUIS to be used, DD rails I know are too fat.

3) The EOtech glass is clear as a house window, I do not think you will get any reflections in it, BUT with our old eyes the reticule looks funny and blurry sometimes.  Check one out for awhile in a store before you buy it.

Reflections are not the problem with the TruGlo, refraction is!
With the sights zeroed at 25 M. without looking through the TruGlo, when looking through the TruGlo the POI moves down about 12" at 25M.

I prefer to keep my A1 uppers and try to use the cantilever mount for range use. I do have the Coolie Adj. Mount.
My main question is " Does looking through the EoTech change the POI of the iron sights" as the TruGlo does?
