Yeah, I got one from him but lost the instructions for cleaning it after use so I haven't used it yet.  Waiting to get all my lowers in order and anodizing before stamping them.

I'll look through my receipts and see if I can remember who I got it from...

Are the "white marks" below on the side of the recievers what you are talking about?

Some info from my archives that may be of help,

Colt A1's within the 4 million range are usually found with the DOD stamp within a 1/2" box stamped on the front of the magazine well.

H&R's will be found with the same 1/2" stamp on the right side of the magazine well.

HydraMatics will have a larger 1" version of the stamp on the right side of the magazine well.

The 177E2's pictured appear to have the 1" version.

Have not seen evidence of this stamp on the 800,000 (early A1) Colt produced guns. It may have made it's appearance on the 1million Colt range as they were produced at approximately the same time as H&R and GM production.

Here are 2 more:

Thanks for the info Wpns Man, I know both Ekie and Scott Ryan have previously spoken about the signifigance of these markings. Not sure if anything posted here in the past has been that specific.

Good Luck,

That was me selling those...........

I was having them made to order, but my supplier stopped making them for me and I didn't have any stockpiled.

If there is interest in more,  I'll see if I can locate an economical source and post a new ad on the EE.

Authenticity note:  I didn't make them to exact dimensions, just close enough.  I did not want to be accused of trying mess up the collector market or anything.

UXB....the cleaning will depend on what you use to stamp it.   You don't want to use any solvents that will eat the rubber stamp.     I just used a damp paper towel, no solvents.    Just don't let gobs of paint or ink build up on it.

armalite puts them on the front of there magwells dont they?  how much did the stamps run before?would vinyl stencils work.  it would be cheap to run a batch of them.  it would probly look too perfect though when finished though.  looks like the originals are all skewed and such.

Thanks morrie!

Do you recommend acrylic paint or some other medium?

I believe there would be an interest, particularly in this Forum.  Glad to hear you chime in.

You want that sloppy Govt. work look to it........gives it "character"

I'll get the Mrs.....I mean, I'll get to work looking for a new supplier.   They were fairly cheap.

I used Humbrol Flat white enamel paint, from the hobby shop.    There is some other ink/paint out there that has an NSN number, but it was expensive.  I'll try and find the link for it.
