Thanks for the positive remarks. We were a little concerned about the chrome lining because it seemed there was a general consensus that accuracy may be negatively affected by having it. In the end though, cost was the decision maker.
As you can see by the targets, it shoots pretty darn good. That is 9 different loads. It really likes the Nosler 55gr BT with H 335 and the 65's and 69's shot good to. Only a couple loads out of the 9 were only fair. We are real pleased with it. The upper to lower fit was a little loose but I'm told that is common. "ACcu wedge" and a small "O" ring, (got the "O" suggestion on here) tightened it right up. The groups were fired before we added the "O" ring but I don't except a improvement in accuracy though I suppose it is possible. As far as I'm concerned it is mission accomplished. Now I have the bug. I deer hunted with my VTR-15 last season but light it is not. I'm looking for a light 16" flat top upper for it now. I may go 20" but it seems like it's much easier to find 16's. PSA has them on sale this weekend too but I'm not ready to buy yet. |

Looks good. Would have preferred either all OD or all black. Not a fan of the optic-on-carry-handle thing. I agree. We are considering painting the hand guards or keeping an eye out for a set of OD ones. The "opiic-on-carry-handle thing" was just a temp thing as noted in the OP. The bullets used were. Bulk Hornady 55gr SP with canalure. Nosler 55gr BT Sierra 65gr BTSP Sierra 69gr BTHP Match The powders used were. H-335 Varget Reloder 15 WC-846 Some of the loads were alredy being used in my VTR. I took 2 deer with the 65gr SP last season with the VTR. |
| I'd say look at the Magpul MOE rifle length hand guards in Olive Drab or Foliage Green. Those A1 handguards are too pretty to paint and I am not a fan of painting stocks. The MOE has a similar feel with a slightly triangular shape. Bi-pod mounting is easily done and you can hang a light on there pretty easily. |
