Gentlemen, I recently completed a build and have been having a few problems and I need some advice. I have a superior arms lower with a Del-Ton Midlength kit. It has had some problems since I started breaking it in, such as a few failures to fire and some blown primers, but they seem to have disappeared as time goes on. The rifle has approx. 400 rds. through it now. The one problem that is consistent is that the chamber appears to be incredibly tight. If I chamber a round and then extract it without firing, I have to grab the charging handle and bang the buttstock on the ground to get it out. This is with several different types of ammo, including Rem 55 gr., SS109, XM197, and both types of Wolf (laquer and polymer). Since I've had it, I can recall only one failure to extract while shooting. Is this an out of spec chamber? Is there something else that I'm missing? I am new to AR's so any help would be much appreciated. Pedro |

The question, can the barrel be re-reamed if it (sideway dimensions/ head space or the barrel throat) is just tight? Yes, as long as you are not trying to overcome chamber-reaming groves from a bad reaming, and the chamber is not over headspaced to begin with. There are more that a few shops/smiths that post here, and if you get lucky, may even find one with a Colt Nato size reamer over just a standard commercial 5.56 reamer, which will allow you to run the rifle with about dam near every ammo's being offered (size wise at least, under powdered ammo is a whole new ball game). Note: Some of the commercial offered reamers can be 223 or a tighter version of Nato in the sidewall dimensions (Bushmaster uses these), so when in doubt, ask what reamers they have to uses. |

Thanks for the response. I'm taking it to a local gunsmith today and he is going to look at it and see what he can figure out. He seems to think that since the weapon cycles fine when firing but just wont extract manually, that it might be a bolt lock up issue. If it's not, then I will see if he can get a NATO reamer. Thanks again, Pedro |
