I assembled a rifle using a PA-10 upper, lower, and lpk with an ALG ACT trigger, BA barrel and PSA NiB BCG. Everything seemed fine, rifle charged properly with no mag inserted so I thought I was good to go. I ordered 2 ASC 10-round mags and took them to the range as soon as they came in. I found that the gun was very hard to charge with an empty mag inserted and I had to use the forward assist to get the bolt fully seated. It almost seems like the mag is sitting too high in the receiver. Loading the mag only made it worse. Any suggestions??
I haven't tried any other mags, yet, not many options available to me, locally but both ASC mags are difficult to charge the BCG. Also, it is impossible to seat the mag with the bolt closed and when I release the mag with the bolt closed, the mag release is really tight and the mag shoots out like it is under pretty good tension when I finally do release it. |

I'm in Northern CA. I'll have to wait until I can get to town to buy some P Mags. I prefer the steel look but quality 10 rounders are hard to find. Looks like I'll be playing with the dremel tomorrow! From what I'm reading it is a mag issue... We shall see I guess.
Edit: Thanks for the link, though, I'll check them out. |

OP, just curious what charging handle you are using? Everything in the upper and lower are PSA, aside from the barrel and ACT trigger. I bought a P-Mag and tried it out. I really had to slam it to get it to lock in, and with the BCG back. Almost seems like the lower has the mag catch a little too high, the flared part of the bottom of the mag was bottoming out in the magwell. Slamming it into the magwell made a couple dimples in the polymer and it locked in. Once I got the P-Mag to seat it cycled well. I did notice the feed lips on the ASC mags were about 1/16" narrower than the P -Mag. I used a dremel to open up the feed lips on the ASC mags and to make deeper dimples in the P-Mag and now everything seems to be working. I'll know for sure when I go to the range! |

Is your rifle lower have a low serial number?
If I recall, there were some issues with early lowers Go to the PSA subforum. There is an entire MANY-page long thread devoted to PA-10 problems. I have 2 and have had some issues with both. One of them required returning an upper. I will warn you that PSA offered me absolutely no warranty for their parts that I assembled. The PA-10 is why I have not ventured into ANY of their other designed weapons - 1911, PA-47, 9mm, etc. ETA: I use exclusively PMags and have not had a problem with their use |
