Looking for answers on what caliber for PDW.
I live in a 2 bedroom apartment, bedroom door to the front door, unobstructed 12yd shot. I need help deciding on a 8" noveske .300blk or a 7.5" noveske diplomat 5.56 upper. The decision will be based on short range performance of factory ammo. For now either would be unsuppressed. I've heard of using 40g Barnes for good point blank performance from a 7.5" 5.56 but haven't done any research into .300blk loads beyond 220g subsonic matchkings. Thanks |

The obvious (to me) technical choice is 300 BLK, especially if you will ever suppress it.
But, practically speaking, one should consider the ammunition supply, itself: is 300 BLK going to be popular enough that it becomes relatively inexpensive?...or do you even care? The pro-300 BLK answer which is quickly tossed out is "well, XYZ coroporation is mass producing 300 BLK already" but, 300 BLK has a ways to go to become anywhere near popular enough to make it inexpensive enough to train with. Me? I'm probably going to build one anyway, but the only thing causiing me to hesitate is the ammo "quandry". |

I'm going to try to cheat and have an identical 7.5" or 'similar' 10.5" LMT 5.56 upper so I can train on that and not have to shoot a lot of .300blk. i'd say 500-1k to get the upper all loosened up and then just 3-5 mags of the best defensive ammo I can get so the ammo issue isn't really an issue. And I can reload on my buddy's RCBS so to just plink, i could always handload. |

I agree on the shotgun, or dare I say get a pistol with a weapons mounted light for that close of shooting. A rifle is a bit much in an apartment, even in most houses.
If you want to barricade the family (or yourself) in a bedroom and give them a shotgun I could see that, but I still have a hard time with all the SBR threads when people live in apartments. My son has a "youth" 870 18" 20 gauge that is VERY handy for younger kids and mama to use, it is super easy for me to use as well. Very inexpensive as well. Think also about this...if you have to use it you REALLY want to give up your SBR rifle that cost you lots of money and time and hope you get it back, or a $300 pump gun that you can replace in 5 minutes at the LGS? Something I have pondered. |

here is my PDW
2ft long 30rds of 308cal http://i51.tinypic.com/np29sx.jpg |
And mine... XCR with 30 rounds of 6.8 and 7.5 inch barrel. Why push a 77 grain 5.56 bullet out of 16 inch barrel at 2500 fps when you can push an 85 gr bullet the same velocity out of 7.5 inch barrel? Warning: This sucker is LOUD!!

Holey moley, that is a sweetie...but I bet she's a tad on the blasty side. |

Wow, do you have any pictures of the inside of your suppressor? I'd like to see whats happening to your blast baffle. |
