I did a search on AR15.com and have read the Ammo Oracle but couldn't find an answer to this:

What does the PD stand for in XM193PD and M855PD?

I see some folks had problems--some serious--others no problem at all....Could the problems just be due to loose-packed ammo that's getting beat-up when tossed about in shipping? Yes, I saw the pretzel and just don't know what to make of that.....hinking
Thanks!

Due to the overwhelming lack of interest in my question, I request that a moderator please put this thread out of its misery.....

Thanks!

It's not lack of interest; it's just that this same question has been asked and answered about 5,000,000 times in the last 5-6 months.

Thanks Troy, I didn't realize it--here's an even dumber question--When I did a search, only 1 or 2 topics showed up--how can I better refine a search so I don't re-post questions? (Esp. ones that have been asked so many times) Is there a "How to" section on searches?

Unfortunately, the search only searches the subject line, not the entire post, and thus it is dependant upon people properly titling their posts, which many can't seem to do.

Ah well--no biggie. I'm going to play it safe & keep buying the boxed XM193--(knocking wood) I've never had a problem with it, so I'll spend the couple extra bucks. My local dealer feels all the problems are just from getting rattled about in shipping, but I don't want to be penny-wise and pound foolish.

Sorry again to try & revive an already dead horse. I do appreciate knowing why--thanks for taking the time.

Here's a thread which is currently on page 3 of the forum which might help-
Lake City XM193PD vs. XM193???.

There's no AR15.com consensus so far on the meaning of the "PD" and no info available from Federal/Lake City.

It is going to continue to be asked until the definitive answer is found.

I have heard that the "PD" stands for Production Damaged. Take it for what it is worth.

Where can I find the discussion on the exact issues
with PD ammo, both XM193 & M855, and particularly
who has suffered damage from using it? There seems to
be a lot of it out there to buy, and I need this knowledge
to weigh the worth.
