Just completed a new build using a Olympic Arms 7.62x39 16" upper.Have fired 50 rounds of various steel cased ammo, all fired and ejected with no problem untill I inspected spent cases. All  but 5 rounds had pierced primers. The upper was factory fired and had brass marks on shell deflector. Firing pin does't look like it protrudes any farther than my other AR's.  What would be causing this?????

do you have a way to measure firing pin?

chances are it is burnt now.
anyway polish it smooth again.1200 grit wet sand paper
run it again see if it still ignites a primer without punching a hole in  it
and order a new one.
it happens

my two cents

I bought an Olympic bolt a couple months ago, it doesn't say it in the description but it came with a slightly modified firing pin.....had several pierced primers with handloads using the modified pin....swapped it out with a un-modified and all was good.....I don't shoot import stuff so I'll stay with the un-modified....

They must've just started sending the pins with the bolts. I bought one last Feb for my 6.5 CSS build and it didn't come with one.

I've ordered a five or six from Midway over the last year, this was the first one to show up with the firing pin....I was pleasantly surprised to say the least.....

I polished up the burnt firing pin and filed the erroded tip. Checked pin protrusion and came up with .037. Put in a new .223 firing pin and it also measured .037. Stuck old firing pin back in and shot 25 rounds of various steel case ammo and 5 rounds of brass cased handloads. All fired and ejected with no pierced primers. I did have 2 rounds of the Wolf HP that would not ignite even after several rechambers. It looks like the primers are seated deeper on these 2 rounds.  Overall I'm pretty happy with this build now.  Thanks for the input.
