| Which is better, in your opinion, the SS spring or the Chrome Silicon spring? |
For performance an ISMI CS spring will be the best between SS and CS. For field corrosion resistance the stainless is the better choice. The PMag stainless steel springs we use come from a US Mil contract holder (special contract- not stock USGI). The OEM PMag springs are made using the specs and material as this mil contract. Stock USGI mags use "music wire" type springs and are the worst option compared to CS or SS. Another good option include CMMGs braided springs. |

They both have their place. SS springs are more resistant to corrosion but get weaker faster and CS last longer but are more prone to corrosion. It's a give take relationship. The PMAG uses a SS spring. We found during our testing that SS spring performed very well in salt spray teats. The CS failed miserably. |

I never put oil on any part of my mags. Oil will only attract dirt which may lead to malf's. I have heard of guys wiping down their CS springs with an oily rag. I reckon a thin coat of oil would not hurt. I'm just one of those guys that finds it easier to replace an old spring intead of inspecting for rust. It really depends on what you want performance wise. I prefer SS springs. I know they won't rust and if they get spongy and spent I remove and replace (like extractor springs SS=low maintance but less overall life than CS CS=long life but more prone to corrosion than SS If element resistance is not a factor in what you're doing then go with the CS for long term durability. Just be sure to inspect the them to insure there is no rust. edit grammar |
| And just for grins, I'm trying the SAW Red Springs in a couple Pmags. |
