| I cannot get the roll pin and now the pin is starting to mushroom. I have it about 1/2 to 3/4 in but I think it is hanging up on the other side. I would like to get it in or take it out and try a different pin but I cannot get the thing to come out now. What can I do to fix this issue? |

I have had trouble installing these roll pins from time to time until I developed a system.
I chuck the new roll pin in a drill and chamfer the feed end slightly to help guide it in place. A little oil or grease never hurts a thing. I make sure I have the gas pin lined up properly before starting. Sometimes I'll use a old drill bit of the proper diameter or a drift punch to keep it lined up. I simply drive it out with the new roll pin. As already suggested, roll pin punches (specific tools for this job) will help hold the pin and stop it from flairing during installation. If you meet resistance, stop, and find out why. Something isn't aligned, or these things will go right in. I suspect your gas tube is twisted in the gas block and the roll pin is mashing into it. You can damage the gas tube, the gas block or the roll pin. The roll pins are cheap and easily replaced. Force isn't need or wanted. Try to pull the roll pin back out with some pliers and start over again. A new pin may be needed. |
