Just ordered this upper then realized it was phosphate coated not nitride.

http://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-ar15-16-mid-length-parkerized-5-56-nato-1-7-13-5-m-lok-free-float-upper-no-bcg-or-ch.html

Would this make a suitable range gun/carbine class/recreational 3gun upper?  I have an older DPMS Oracle that is phosphate coated for about the past 5 years and have put around 1500-2000 rounds through it and it has treated me just fine.

Really like the longer handguard, they have an option for nitride with a shorter handguard for slightly less.  Should I cancel and reorder?

Getting a premium bolt carrier group from them as well.

My rule is if it bothers you, try and return it! But I do think it will do just fine. If you want to bench shoot it for groups maybe nitride would be better. Also I'd buy a nickel boron coated bcg; the slick lubricity is awesome. I bought one of their premium bcg's and it feels like im rubbing a 2x4 piece of wood.

I agree.

If it bothers you, just cancel before it's listed as shipped.

It will probably do you fine though.

I wouldn't say it really bothers me persay, I guess the more I read about their different barrels, coatings and product lines (PTAC, PSA, Freedom, Premium, etc) they use the more confused I get

Personal preference.  Mang. phosphate works fine. I've yet to wear a barrel out.

Thanks, I think I will just let it go.

It probably will see a couple thousand rounds then be regulated to some occasional shooting / training...cause you know AR's multiply and you always are getting another

Bottom line, buy what YOU like.

Bought the same upper 2 weeks ago in Keymod.  Ran great first time out of the box with my Franklin Armory BFS3 trigger.  No info on accuracy yet as I haven't tried.  Mine was a blem with a tiny 1/16th inch scratch I fixed with a black Sharpie
