My brother is calling me non stop right now. I think he's about to purchase or put some money down on an AR-15 at the local gun store. Anyway he tells me they have a Colt Sporter Match Target H-Bar for $750 (20"/A2) and something called a PWA Commando for $499 or there abouts. The gun guy told him PWA out of Milan, IL makes "something" for Wilson Combat!? LMT is out of Milan, IL but I have no idea WTF PWA is, or what Wilson whores out to, etc. anybody have any 411, I'm yelling at him "CHILL OUT DUDE! Don't do anything unless it's putting some money to hold that COLT" but maybe I should say something else? "BUY IT NOW!!! OMFG!" no clue about PWA$750 a good deal on the Colt H-Bar? (most likely used; I didn't ask) |

I have a PWA too. Oddly enough the guys at the local gunshop here say they're crap but it seems that the majority of PWA owners on this site just love them to death. When I got mine originally I had problems with doubling but a quick changeout of lower internals (hammer, trigger, etc.) remedied that with no problems since. PWA's are no longer made so you'd have something fairly unique if you got that one. I don't think they ever made complete rifles so you may want to check on where the upper receiver and barrel are from. Fearless |
| PWA is definately good stuff, as far as lower receivers go. The rest of the rifle is what I'd want to know about. Between those two deals sight unseen, I'd go for the Colt (factory gun, somewhat likely to still be in factory form). But given the chance to handle and fire them both, I might well choose the PWA. Either is a good deal at those prices though. |

I have a PWA "Commando." For what I know, they didn't make any (or very few) preban receivers. They only made the receiver from what I recall; the rest of the rifle I have is DPMS. Yes, the receiver is good. As much as any receiver that fits the upper, lower parts kit and stock is a "good" receiver. Fit and finish are fine and have stood the test of time and a few thousand rounds. -White Horse |
Most PWA receivers are preban (I think). I've got 2 PWA prebans and 1 ban lower. I think the serial number cut-off for preban lowers is around 37,000ish. |
