I've got two questions for all you PWS MK2 owners. I've been digging through the intertubes and haven't been able to find answers (although maybe my google-fu is just weak).
1) Does their 308 BCG use a spring behind the bolt in the carrier, like their 5.56 rifles? Or does the 308 bolt float freely in the carrier? 2) Does the PWS use a proprietary 308 bolt, or do they use the DMPS-pattern bolt? Will their carrier fit the JP enhanced 308 bolt, or the LMT enhanced 308 bolt, etc? I'm just trying to figure out what the compatibility and spare parts situation would be if I go the PWS route. Thanks in advance! |

Only the most recently produced PWS MK1 Mod 1 rifles have a spring on the bolt. The Mk2 rifles do not have a spring on the bolt.
I suspect a DPMS pattern replacement bolt will work but I recommend you call or email PWS to confirm. They have pretty responsive customer service people and if the question is too technical they'll send you to their head engineer. |

So I heard back from PWS today, and this is what they told me. I'm posting it here in case anyone else finds it interesting.
Although our bolt is made to roughly the same pattern as that of the JP unit there are a number of minor differences which might cause fitment and operational issues with a JP bolt in our build. A MK2 bolt will not properly operate or cycle in another manufacturers DI build since it does not take the gas in the same manner during operation. Our bolts are specific to run the best possible in our builds. You will notice that our bolts do not use gas rings or other DI related design features. The PWS MK2 bolt is constructed from S7 tool steel which is then through hardened rather than surface hardened and then coated with nickel Teflon, a step above the finish on the JP unit. Our customers have reported nothing but great experiences with these sub-assemblies; if you need to replace or add a spare to your kit just click the MK2 image and it will take you to a buying page from one of our parts resellers.
I hope this message finds you well and that the provided information is helpful as you determine what your best route will be to achieve your goals moving forward. If there is anything else I can hel pyou with now or in the future please do not hesitate to ask. Thank you for your interest, continued support, and ongoing enthusiasm for PWS. Best Wishes, Owen |
