So I want to paint my scope to match my rifle, but I wasn't sure if I should spray paint it or not.  I dont want the knobs and stuff to get sticky.  What are my options besides spray paint?  Has anyone used that gauze looking wrap stuff?  It's the scope, rings, and YHM rail extension that I need to camo.

Here is what I want to match:

I've seen the camo cloth tape used and it seems to turn out pretty good.  My main concern is the moisture that the might get held in the tape.

I painted (actually used aircure Gunkote) my NXS.  As long as you do it right you won't have any issues.  Multiple light coats will keep your knobs and such from gumming up.

Your biggest issue will be getting the paint to stick to your scope.  Most scopes have such a good finish, paint won't stick.  My first attempt looked great at first but then the finish peeled off like a potato skin.  On my second attempt at the recommendation of Fongman, my procedure was as follows...I degreased with alcohol wipes.  I then used a hairdryer to heat the scope.  I then sprayed a VERY light misting coat.  (The first few coats were so light I really couldn't see that much paint was on the scope at all.)  I then hit it with the hairdryer for a moment again.  I then let it sit to dry.  After each coat had dried (about 2 hours) I took a dry paper towel and wiped the scope down.  The theory is that this will remove any paint that is not sticking good.  I then heated with the hairdryer and repeated the misting, drying and wiping until the scope was covered to my liking.  It has been over a year and the finish is holding good.

Not the best pics, but you can see that the finish still looks good.  The only place it is worn is the knobs that get a good bit of touching and a few of the high spots that continually rub on my vest or the inside of the case.
