I am just wondering how important it is to have the barrel parkerized under the FSB. Has anyone had problems with rust?

And, are does LMT use the F marked front sight base or not? I saw one without it, but on some chart I looked at it said that they used the F marked base.

I would say its pretty important. It eliminates the possibility of rust forming under the FSB. Its basically the some idea behind shooting under spray on vehicles. Your barrel will also show unattractive bare metal spots if you decide to change gas blocks.

LMT uses front sights that are "F" height, but not marked as such.

I prefer that my rifles be parkerized under the FSB, but it's not important.

I've never really noticed any damage/rust/pitting, etc.

However, I get uppers in all the time to work on, and I normally pull the FSB, plug the gas port and both ends of the barrel, and toss them in the park solution. It just drives me crazy to have a completely phosphated part, except for the only silver area, whether I can see it or not.

I was fust wondering about that, I have an LMT FSB I just had removed from my neww LMT upper, and it doesn't seem to be F marked. Who else uses F height FSB, Bushmaster?

Do you have to remove the FSB in order to see if it was parkerized, or can you tell just by looking at the FSB/barrel area?

Thanks,
Kevin

What I wonder is if the FSB is on tight enough to not leak gas how is water or anything else going to get under it?

If you use the Larue low profile GB, then the barrel marks will be covered, or if a shorter LPGB is used you coukd extend the rail length which would also cover the the marks.

This cracks me up!

Its true LMT does use the right size FSB

They dont mark them with a F since they DONT MAKE 20inch GOV upper?
Just a GUESS

I will Take a LMT M4 upper are one of the BEST you can BUY!
ACCURACY is what sold me the most

My 2 LMT M4`S are Fine and I live in SWFL

I guess if it bothers you take it off FSB and spray SOLID FILM LUBRICANT  over it

Taken many off and it dose not matter. Never seen any rust I think it may be sales pitch.or not for you to decide.

It seems like no air or water could get under the sight, and if the water could some rust preventatives could to I would assume.
