Looking to get my first AR. Interested in a piston driven model.

Looking at some different brands, i.e., Ruger SR556, Stag Model 8, etc., I was wondering if any of the parts are interchangeable in regards to the bolt, firing pin, extractor, etc., with the standard DI systems? Or would I have to go
with a specific manufacturer's parts only.

Most of the piston AR makers have kept the small parts such as those you mentioned the same as most DI ARs.  The pieces that are proprietary are typically the piston components themselves, the railed forend, gas blocks etc.

Firing pins, takedown pins, detent pins, springs etc....are usually standard AR15/M16/M4 pieces.
