I was wondering if anyone does not have a muzzle device on their ar and if they don't could I see a picture of it. I'm from N.J. and  flash hiders are illegal and I'm not sure if I want a comp/ brake because of how loud they are. I do like the look (cool factor) a muzzle  dives gives to an ar , so please help me decide.

No muzzle device on this AR.

This is a ban compliant build. Disregard the goofy scope

Guns are loud.  Go ahead and put a nice brake on there to keep your muzzle flat.

Just get a Comp known not to be loud. Besides. Most comps/breaks are only loud to the people next to you.

If you're looking for a comp that isn't much louder than an A2 then get a Griffin M4SD II.

I also have to have "ban compliant" AR's in this state as well, and I kind of prefer to have just a plain barrel with no muzzle device.  Unfortunately there are not a whole lot of options if you want to go this route, and with a few exceptions are mostly stuck with HBAR style barrels - which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but does add a bit of weight you don't really need.

This one is an older picture - it has been changed around some since this was taken

Another one

I have a couple others but no pics of them right now.

My biggest problem with no muzzle device is you have to baby the muzzle to keep from damaging the crown. That's why I'd prefer to have a muzzle device. A lot cheaper to swap out a <$100 device when needed than to constantly re-crown the barrel.

I run an Ares Effin' A comp on my 7.62x39 upper, it's tunable so you plug any holes you don't want to vent from, mine is only open from the 11 o'clock to 1 o'clock positions to control muzzle jump without venting any gas back to the shooter. I don't notice any increase in noise/concussion over an open muzzle. I've got one of the older ones that just looks like a can, the newer ones are 'styled' and are considerably lighter. Might also look at a linear comp, they vent forward. I had a Levang linear comp on a pistol then tried it on a rifle for a while. Didn't do much for muzzle jump/recoil but looked good, it was cheap, and wasn't any louder.

Where are you going to be shooting in NJ? The only place local to me (Bergen County) is Bullethole in Belleville and even with my bare muzzle shooting for an hour will definitely ring your bells. I can't imagine shooting indoors with a brake for any extended period of time.

Keep the muzzle bare. It's not so bad.
