What is the dimensional [if any] difference between a picattiny rail and a weaver rail? I can't seem to find any prints on either one of them. Am looking to do some "innovative" mounting and would like to know differences before laying out any cash. Thanks Shooter100 |
I think the only difference is that M1913 the bars go straight across uninterupted where as weaver is only concerned with the clamping surfaces. |

Sorry, but there are real differences between the Weaver and the M1913 Picatinny designs. The Weaver is a very old design, pretty much left up to the interpretation of anybody who wants to manufacture it. The specs have a very wide range, and if a "made to fit Weaver" ring or accessory fits, it's considered good to go. On the other hand, the M1913 Picatinny rail design is very dimension specific. One can NEVER ASS-U-ME that a Weaver spec'd part will fit, and vice-versa. For a detailed M1913 drawing go to: www.biggerhammer.net/picatinny/ HTH |
