| I'm wanting to biuld a custom ar15 with a 16 or 18 heavy barrel to mount a scope on for target shooting/hunting. Question is does the lower and upper receiver have that much effect on accuracy? What would you consider to be the best buy out there for a quality stripped lower and upper receiver? Thanks. |

Check out Bravo Company's cosmetic blem. lowers and uppers.

Longer barreled rifles, 20-24" benefit from the stiffness of heavy billet uppers. On a 16-18" rifle you probably won't see any difference, especially in 5.56.
I did see a improvement with my 6.5G when changing from a forged mil-spec upper to a Rainier (Mega?) heavy billet upper. Consistency was the biggest improvement. |

I realize that you think this is true, but this is a personal opinion and not backed by any facts or data. There are many factors involved here that could be attributed to your claim of better accuracy, barrel nut torque, range conditions, different tolerances, maybe you became a better shooter? There just has NOT been enough data from multiple tests with multiple controls to say this is fact. The AR platform by design is not one that has alot to do with stiffness of the upper in regards to accuracy, all the upper does is hold together parts in line. Just saying this so newer people know that this is not hard facts. |
