Is there a trick that I'm missing to getting a pinned gas block off. I scratched up a barrel trying to get one off in the past. I want to buy a noveske afgan but I'm a little fearful of the pinned gas block. Thanks

Pinned and welded, or cross-pinned?

If it is pinned/welded, it'll need to be cut off.

If it is cross-pinned (like a GI FSB), then you'll need to drift them out from
one side (I forget which side - think it would be right-to-left to get off, wait for another).
The pins are tapered and will only go in one way.

As long as the afghan is the same as their SPR barrel, it should come with just the set screw holding the gas block on.  The gas block pin and gas tube roll pin come in a small plastic baggie along with the barrel.  At least this is how I got mine through rainier arms.

My Afghan barrel was my first Noveske barrel.  I've had I think 7-8 Noveske barrels since then.  The first 1 is a little daunting, but I could probably remove/install the pinned GB blindfolded now.  I tape up the barrel in front of the GB so I don't scratch it up at all. And use the setscrew to your advantage.  It makes the pinning/unpinning go quick and drama-free.  Get good quality punches/punch hammer and it's cake.  Blue-loctite the set screw.

No worries.

I believe the new Noveske barrels only have the setscrew installed, the pin is loose in the bag.
