OK I bought a lot of 18 new AR-15 barrels from a local FFL that went out of business. In the lot were two barrels that did not have a barrel nut nor barrel indexing pin, but instead had a barrel extension with a spot for a 8mm pin milled/drilled along the bottom of the barrel extension. Pictures forthcoming if necessary but if anyone has heard of a pinned AR15 barrel maybe I can save the time of posting pics??? To complicate matters the FFL had no idea why his now-deceased partner had those two barrels made that way, nor does he know the MFG of the barrels so I'm kind of at a loss to identify them myself. Any help appreciated! PS Bottom of barrel is stamped: "5.56 NATO 1/7 CB" |

Tnx for prompt reply. I'm at a loss here. I can't get the barrel extension off, of course. I can't mate it to an upper because there's no indexing post. A barrel nut wouldn't even reach the threads due to the odd barrel extension. In order for this to mount it must require a custom receiver extension which would allow a pin to be pressed through. But why bother with the extra expense and work? Anyway at this point I'm far more curious as to "what for" than "what it is", hopefully one will lead to the other. :-) |

Looks like a LMT MRP Barrel. Look here, this is the only pic I could find right away |
I was just searching for the same thing, I had to check MGI first. I couldn't remember which one used a standard barrel. Looks like a LMT MRP to me. |

DING! Sweet, that seems to be a positive ID. First question I have is "what's an LMT MRP"??? If anyone have more information about what these barrels are used for, or more appropriately, how would one go about using them? Obviously there's more going on with them than a standard AR config... |

LMT Monolithic Rail Platform, with quick change barrel MRP Thread |
|
To be thorough for any future searches turning this thread up, here's the link I found with a neat article about this: link And a big thanks for helping me out, I'm just getting started (had FFL for two months now), and a little wet behind the ears still... |
After looking through some of the builds in that thread referenced above, I think I found my next project. Those rifles look beautiful. :-) I'm about all of 2 hrs from LMT, will have to take a trip up there someday. I'm from just outside Peoria IL. Just a quick trip up I74. |

Holy smokes.. after seeing what LMT charges for those uppers, I may end up selling these two barrels. For what they've got listed on their website catalog (1200-1500 roughly), could build a NM rig up instead. Sure do look nice tho. Anyway give me a little bit to make up my mind, and thanks for the ID guys! |
