I'm building an AR pistol using a 7" Radical upper.  I want to use a CMMG .22 LR adapter conversion kit.  Do I need a buffer tube or can I use some type of end  cap to replace the tube?  I'm assuming the CCMG unit is self contained as far as the spring system is concerned.  If it's possible to do this does anyone make a replacement type end cap?  Eventually I'll do the paperwork to SBR it in another caliber but till then I want to use it as a .22lr pistol version.  Thanks.

Yes you can use a filler plug in lieu of the buffer tube. Ideally you'll still want a little something in there to provide pressure to keep the conversion frame firmly seated, but it might not be strictly necessary.

Spike's used to make the filler plugs, but I don't know if they or anyone are still making them these days.

Note that without a buffer tube though, you're giving up a lot of stability/accuracy by not having that great third point of contact with cheek.

I have learned in my 22lr conversion it don't like my 7.5" barrel but does shoot well in both my 16" barrels.  I have a old spikes conversion.

I just recently built a 22 pistol with a Spikes conversion and had no issues with it.

What troubles are you having with it?
