Hello everyone, I am fairly new here and am planning my first build and was hoping that the folks here could help put me on the right track. I currently have a Bushmaster Predator that I really like. It is very accurate and a lot of fun to shoot. I now want to build another riffle that will be used primarily for bench rest shooting and possibly for varmints as well. I want to build it in the 6.5 Grendel if I can. My dilemma is this; I could buy the complete upper from Alexander Arms for $980 but figure I could buy the barrel only from them and build it cheaper myself? The only problem with that is the completed upper AA offers it has a 19.5” barrel and the barrels they sell alone for the 6.5 Grendel are only 18”. Will that 1.5” make a big difference in terms of accuracy? Also I was wondering will the 18" barrel require a mid-length or riffle length gas system? For the free floated hand guard I was thinking of the YHM light weight 4 rail design. What other parts will I need to purchase to complete the upper in terms of gas block barrel nut ect? For the upper receiver I was looking at a DPMS A3 Upper Receiver to go onto a completed DPMS lower. I am fairly mechanically inclined and think I can do the upper build myself but need a little guidance as to what parts exactly I will need to do the job. Thanks for any info. Joe |

Thanks Hunter, I will check that out. So far after briefly crunching the numbers it looks like the pre built upper on a pre built lower will run mw 1200-1250. If I build the upper myself and add it to a completed lower I am looking at about 1000 bucks. I could then put that extra 200-250 towards my scope. |
