I have a DoubleStar M4 and  I am about to buy the Troy MRF DI Rail.  It says it is 7" but when I measure my stock handgaurds, they are a little over 6.5 inches and fit really tight without any movement.

Can anyone explain to me how the 7 inch rail will fit without having to modify my rifle? Keep in mind that these are drop in rails not free float.

7 inch = carbine.  It will fit.  Don't worry about what your tape measure says.

Plus it looks like you left 1/4" on the table at the left side.

No, they don't.  I have Troy DI rails on this gun:

It is a carbine.  All carbine handguards are made the same length.  For giggles (and to see how light I could make a practical weapon), I threw on my roommate's DPMS M4 handguards and some of my own older CAR-15 handguards.  Those hanguards are the same length and style as what you've posted in your OP.

The rails will fit just fine.

The delta ring should seat fine with the troy rail. Or any other drop in carbine rail for that matter.

7" has come to be known as a carbine legth.
The measurement of apporx 7" is really directly taken from the measurement of a free float handguard (which includes the integral barrel nut as part of the overall length).

So the acutal product you purchase for a drop in system (one that uses the exsisting delta ring/barrel nut assem) is a bit shorter.

You will be good to go with the Troy DI-7 and your carbine.
