| There are definitely at least three "oddball" apertures out there - one is for the 9mm Colt submachine gun, an A1 night sight (I think these were for use with the tritium front sights, and may or may not have tritium inserts but had a different size aperture then normal), and a commercial "large aperture" that I think DPMS and Bushmaster made. Plus it's completely possible to find an A2 aperture mounted in an A1, they fit and work OK. |
| I think the little triangle logo is the hint here. I've never seen one in person, but I recall something about some part of the military using Trijicon tritium sights in the eighties. (I can't remember if it was Seals or Rangers or SOCOM or Airforce Special Ops) |

It is for an A1. And I don't believe it's for an AR 180. AR 180 is marked with meters and 180B has larger sight hole. It is
However the same profile of 180's. Doesn't have the large sighthole like A2 sight. I was referring to the sides of the aperture are straight up from the base. Most A1's are rounded as they come up from the base. Or oval if that makes sense. Don't have a pic to post of standard aperture. |

Need better pictures to positively identify.
If plain, no markings generally Colt prior to 1969ish and the introduction of M-16A1, also usually grey or greenish grey. Colt M-16A1 model and forward the aperture has a rectangle pad with number inside under magnification behind the L marked hole and is generally black with some exceptions. H&R and GM are marked differently than Colt but similar with rectangle pad. Lots of commercial flavors out there also but mostly DPMS same plane style although L marked there is no difference in aperture height as it should be. |
