I have been told two diferent things and I really didnt know where to put this thread.....class 3 or here since it deals with the ar15. Question is........What is the exact differance between the M16 im issued and the AR15 I would go out to buy.......For example if I had and AR15 what parts would I nned to make it have 3 round burst? I have been told the lower is different, and my armor said all i need is a different selector switch and a little piece he gave me that looks like a gear ( idont know what it is so dont ask me). Would yall please shed some light on this for me. Thank you for your time and knowlege |
If you are asking how to do it legally, it will run between $7-15K. |
|
The difference in them is limited to the internal parts and the milling of the area containing those parts. It is not a good idea to discuss the steps required to convert an AR15 to accept 3-round burst or full-auto fire control parts. (if that was your question) In fact, I believe it could get you directions to the exit. |
| but if i went through the legal steps, in wich I would ataina lic for a class three weapon. which I plan to Is this not how everyone else does this, Why would I go and buy a new lower if I already have one, that can be modified? I am not looking for any trouble. I just want to take what I already have and make it like the one I have issued to me. |
|
you would have to buy one of these $8000.00 to $10,000 www.gunsamerica.com/guns/976766592.htm |
because you cant modify the lower. -not since 1986. that is why legal m16s cost around $10k. to actually make an ar15 into an m16 would not be too difficult, but it's not worth the risk/prison time. sorry, there is no license to allow you to manf. a new machine gun. however, if you wanted to become a class 2 manufacturer, you could legally convert it. of course that would be more expensive than just buying a legal m16. not to mention the whole "changing your life around thing". fact is the gov. doesn't trust you to have burst or full auto. and uncle sam knows best. |
also, having that little piece of metal in your posesion without the proper paperwork is also a trip to club fed. it is considered a machine gun by itself. it does the same thing as the sear in a full auto gun except it doesn't require a hole to be drilled to pin it in place. |
| Your existing lower can NOT be modified to take stock M16 parts, due to the FOPA that was passed in 1986. Modifying an existing AR15 lower to take stock M16 parts would be manufacturing a new machinegun, and illegal. The only way for you to "convert" your existing lower is through the use of a REGISTERED lightning link (which uses standard semi-auto fire control parts), or a REGISTERED drop-in auto-sear (which uses standard M16 fire control parts). Any other "conversion" would be illegal. |
|
Convert existing receiver without a REGISTERED sear or lightning link = trip to pound-me-in-the-ass prison. Doing it legally = $8-15 thousand dollars, depending on how you do it. SPChootin, you wouldn't happen to work for our friendly neighborhood BATFE, would you? |
