My brother just got his M4 upper and rail today and he did a function test, and had a double feed I looked at the two bullets and noticed one had a cut in the tip and the other had two dents in the casing, so I looked at the receiver and the feed ramps don't match up, Heres some pics.

dents in the casing

cut in the tip

He got the barrel from J&T Distributing, and the receiver from BCM

Time to get out the dremel and cut the m4 feedramps into the barrel... That or somehow fill in the ramps on the upper receiver.

If you don't want to do any mods yourself, I'd recommend he get a different upper receiver or barrel.

You have a rifle barrel, and an upper with M4 feedramps. Either you need to get a barrel with extended feed ramps, or you need to dremel your current barrel down. The dent in the brass isn't a big deal, it's not to uncommon, however the smiley on the tip shouldn't be there, obviously.

How hard would it be to cut the feedramps?

If you have skill, and a decent dremel, it should be managable. I believe that ADCO might do feed ramps, for a small fee, but don't quote me on that one. If you were to do it yourself, I'd suggest taking the barrel off, cutting the ramps, than sand/polish them. You can find online what M4 feed ramps look like on the barrels, if you don't know already.

Where did he get that upper from?

Another option would be to contact BCM and explain he got the wrong one.. and get one with the correct ramps... BCM is known for good CS... they would probably exchange.
