Anybody have one installed? What are they for?

I'm waiting for the carbine version.
You can control the cyclic rate with them. They reduce what little recoil is produced by the ar-15/m-16. Gets rid of the 'twang' noise from the buffer spring.
Best effect is on a full auto gun, but there are some benefits over a semi buffer and spring system. Up to you if it is worth 129 bucks though.
It is guaranteed for life.

So they are for reducing recoil as well?

I was informed they were ONLY for reducing cyclic rate.

I don't own one yet, can only go by what I have heard & read.  I understand they do cut down on recoil a bit and that companies other than Olympic make them but I don't know who they are.  If anyone here does, please advise.

Did a quick search - should you have additional questions, go here:

Here is more information on them.

Around the end of the page is a hyperlink to click on.  It shows a video of the buffer in use on a 9mm.  Slows rate down 10-20% and make it more controllable.

The only other pneumo-buffer that I'm aware of is mfg'd by AAC. The most notable difference between it & the Oly is that the AAC retains use of a (replacement?) recoil spring.

Thanks guy's for the great links and the video. I'm not concerned about cyclic rate as my AR is not FA. But I do want to get the recoil down even more. The buffer looks like it will do that. Gotta like a lifetime guarantee.
