Hi,
Does anyone know what happened to the guy who were selling these on the EE? I wouldn't mind getting more. Thanks for the help

Dunno, but I recently purchased two cases of them from Sportsmans Guide for less than $10.

Use them for a lot of things, besides magazines.

Sorry for my NooBness here, but what is the point of putting them in a zip-lock bag? Just to keep dust and dirt out of them in use?

Thanks

As far as I know, they first came into being during the Vietnam festivities.  With that nasty environment, the purpose is self evident.

Found a case of them laying around in Iraq.  They probably didn't see much use there, however.

I personally use them for long term storage of individual boxes of ammo.  The 20rd sized bags are the perfect size for single 5rd boxes of shotgun shells and paper wrapped 20rd bundles of 7.62x54r.

The larger 30rd sized bags are great for storing larger sized boxes of ammo, as well as repacking bulk-packed ammo; such as .22lr.

I've never seen them in person, and I'm wondering how the bags available at sportsman's guide are used.  I understand there is a perforated top to open them, but how do you seal them shut after you put a magazine in it?

The 30rd mag sized bags have a modern "zip-lock" seal.  Waterproof.

The vintage 20rd mag sized bags (which is what you get from SG) use a metal strip at the end of the bag; similar to that used on bags of whole bean coffee.  You roll up the excess bag, and then bend the ends inward.  Rain proof, but not "dunk it in a rice paddy" proof.

As a bonus, the latter have the el-neato "Chieu Hoi" surrender pass printed on them in Vietnamese.

Thanks, now I see the rolled up area on the end of the 20rd bags.  They will be good enough for what I need, especially at that price.
