I noticed that a few oth the lowers today at the fun store are made of Plolymer.
Is this something new?
Is this going to be ok?
A complete lower with buttstock and trigger kit was $119.
Now with a decent upper on it, it will be ok.
I have a DPMS lower now with LMT upper, all black, and would like to get a dual color Ar IN TAN (Buttstock, grip, rails)

What doesn the hive thin?

Natron11,

These new lowers have been arround for a while. The newest brand to make them are from Frontier Arms like the one I have and waiting for my upper of my choice. In adition ther's Plum Crazy brand that came out first. With the price of a kit for $119 you can get one completely built and out the door for $150. Not too much more. Check out Rifle Gear gun store for one to order by internet if you like other wise head to "Yo Tube" and watch some videos on them.

My AR has a New Frontier Arms lower.  I bought the completed lower.
You'll hear loss poo-poo's about a polymer lower but I have not had a single problem. I have about 800-1000 rounds through it and I love it. I especially like the crisp trigger.
Recommended.

The lpk has nothing to do with comparing a forged lower to a poly lower. It may be nice to say your FA lower came with a nice setup, but its worth making the distinction that ISN'T part of the lower in terms of "is a poly lower ok?"

I personally think it's great we have so many choices today. And I welcome the poly lowers to the club.

I personally would not choose one, as I just don't think it would last as long as a forged unit, and probably more importantly, I don't think it would hold up as well to a kaboom. A standard AR lower is actually a pretty safe weapon in case of a kaboom generally driving the forces out the ejection port and down the mag well, and I think you'd lose that with the polymer. I think it would shatter or break open. I have nothing to back that up, its just my gut. But that's all I need to make my decision. the money saved doesn't translate if you have a less safe weapon and one that wont last as long.

I think it would potentially shine on a lightweight hunting rifle or 22lr build... something not used a lot or shooting the light round. For a full 5.56 battle rifle, I'm will stick with forged lowers.

For AR-15s, polymers are quite adequate.  I use them.  I prefer aluminum receivers, bug again Polymers are adequate.

New Frontier, Bushmaster, Carbon15, Plum Crazy, etc.

Polymer lowers are not terribly new, and they are quite good, especially if it is a New Frontier Armory lower, as theirs is better quality than the Plumcrazy. After viewing the torture tests by NFA, I knew I had to have a poly lower and not an aluminum one. The 80,000 trigger cycle test by NFA solidifies the incredible reliability of the product. It is comforting to know it will last nearly forever.

I have a New Frontier Armory complete polymer lower for a dedicated 22lr upper and it works great. Nice and light too. I put my heavyweight side charge 7.62x39 upper with an 18" stainless barrel on the polymer lower just to see what would happen. I put a few mags through it and had absolutely no issues. I am building a second x39 upper for a family member and it is going to live on an NFA poymer lower. As long as you aren't expecting to pound nails with it, use it as a pull up bar, or travel to the land of the sand for operator duty, the polymer is fine. Marksarmory.com had them for $98.25 shipped a few weeks back.
