Thanks for the moderators for the great forum and posts.  This is my first post.  I have been reading this forum for about a year now and after reading the below posts I am pumped up on my first build.  I have bought a lower from Spikes and a 2 stage trigger lower receiver kit from RRA.

I live in CT where we still live in the post-ban world.  I would like to built and AR with a 20' inch barrel on a M$ upper AND I want to keep the threaded barrel if possible
with a recoil reducer.  I guess that means I must give up the hand grip and the folding stock.  I would like suggestions on components for this build that would not land me in jail  I want to stay away from Bushmaster and Colt uppers since they are banned by name.  (Our representatives just went through a picture book of guns and banned all the mean looking ones-see below)

Here is a list of banned guns by name

Thanks for your help and the info

Welcome, but that was actually your third post, not your first I myself hail from NY, which also lives in the draconian land of post-ban.

I would 100% advice against using the threaded barrel as your 'evil' part. When you say recoil reducer, I am assuming you mean muzzle brake or comp. Pick a Brake or Comp that you like, and have it permenently attached at ADCO. There are lots of different choices out there. Here are some comparisons and reviews of different brakes:

You will want to use the pistol grip (hand grip) as your 'evil' feature. AR stocks don't fold, but some do collapse. You could buy a non-collapsable stock (i,e, A2, A1, ACE, or others) or you could buy a M-4 stock and pin it yourself. Since you want a 20'' barrel, an A2 stock might be a good choice.

I don't know what M$ is, but there are plenty of site sponsers you could look into for getting your upper. A few that come to mind are Del-Ton, JT, and Bravo Co.

Others will have different advice, but do what's best for you. Again, welcome to the world of ARs!

A great muzzle brake and flash suppressor.  Check out their web site and the video.  Best of all, the BATF has designated this as a non-flash suppressing device.  You can get a copy of their letter on the web site.

Thanks for the advice.  Are there any decent thumbhole stocks out there or are they all not that practical.  Also if I get a threaded barrel and fit it with a muzzle brake then I silver solder it on (over the threads) is that enough?

Unsure about the thumbhole stocks . About the legality, I am unsure about CT. but in Mass, and by the Feds, I believe it is OK from what I have read. By the Fed regulations you have to use 1100 degree silver solder (at least that temp, it could be higher and be OK). The only other stipulation is the barrel has to be a minumum of 16" with the muzzle brake, NOT flash hider attacged ("permanantly")
