I'm submitting my Form 1 and preparing for the long wait. In the mean time I was wondering what, if any run problems I can expect from a Model-1-Sales, 10 1/4" or a 11 1/2' upper on a Colt lower?  Will they run right or is a pigtail almost the standard?  Thx all in advance.

Anytime you go shorter than a 14.5" M4 barrel, you're just asking for problems.  That is not to say short uppers don't work, but you're much more likely to have problems the shorter you go.  I think you'll be ok with Model 1 though - I have a 7.5" upper from them that runs perfectly.  Just remember, its not a chrome lined barrel.

To reduce the potential for problems, I'll make two suggestions though.  First, get a heavy duty extractor spring and/or a #60 O-ring to give you more positive extraction.  Second, be prepared to buy a good muzzle brake (the flash supressor will be almost useless on a short barrel anyway).  If you have cycling problems, try adding a muzzle brake.  Often, problems with short uppers can be solved by adding a muzzle brake or supressor to give it more back pressure to cycle the weapon.  Some people will open up the gas port to give it more gas, but that should only be used as a last resort.

Generally the problems arise with short barreled MGs on full auto.

Normally SBR semi auto don't run into the same kind of problems as FA guns.

enjoy.

got no problems with my 11.5" Bushy.  Have had 1000 rds or so only.  No problems yet.

With the exception of bolt bounce, semi SBR's are subject to all the same sorts of problems with short barrels as MG's.  Short stroking and poor extraction are not limited to full-auto.
