| I have been powder coating somethings for friends i.e. rims, hitch covers, motorcycle parts and was wondering if it would work on a new build I am woring on? Other than some threads that might have to be dug out what do you think? |
No personal experience, but I've seen postings stating that powder coating on firearms causes problems as it is too thick, screwing up tolerances. Someone with first hand knowledge of powdercoating might want to chime in.. ![]() Lonny |

For the outward surfaces of the thing it shouldn't be a problem. I worked in an agricultural impliment factory that did powder coating(they coated everything!), but never did it myself(I asmbled the powder coated peices). It is more durable than most paints, but I observed it was hard to get an even coat on small parts, and sharp edges/corners caused problems. Im not sure if all of it is like this, but it did scratch and gouge if you got rough with the peices, but never chipped. Nothing realy beats the standard pakerizing/anodizing for looks though, but powder coating may help for corrosion. Oh, and extreem heat can cook the powder coating. We baked it on at 425F, and its verry delicate at this tempurature untill it cools off. |
