| Looking at buying a AR with a lower made by SGW. Has anyone heard of them? Anything that you could tell me good or bad would be appreciated. |

SGW aka Olympic Arms. Quality varies, if it seems to have good fit & finish, go for it. They used the same forged blanks as bushmaster and several of the other manufacturers. - Some of the more recent stuff is cast, and those I would avoid or check over very carefully as some I have seen were way out of spec. |
| I had an old SGW lower made for Palmetto Armory, with a low serial number. Check out Olyarms for the serial number of your gun. Mine was one of the original ones machined out of bar stock, and the holes were egging out after little use as it was so soft. Anyway I sent it in to Oly for refinishing in hardcoat, but instead they "remanufactured" it on a new forged lower for safety concerns. They did it for free, but now they charge $100. It is still a preban since the serial number is the same. So long as Oly is in business, your lower can be remanufactured as a new forged lower and retain it's preban status. This is just something to consider even if it does have issues. My new lower looks great in the shorty configuration I have it in now. Heavy Bushmaster barrel, flattop upper, plastic buttstock. No M4gery for me. Makes a nice semi-auto companion to my Colt M16A1 carbine. |

I've got an SGW Oly lower, and it's nice. It is also forged (you may want to check Olympics website for info on how to tell if a lower is cast or forged, they've even got pics). The mag well in mine isn't really too bad. I've got probably close to 30 mags. And only a couple fit tight. They lock, but don't drop free. Other than that, no complaints. Hope this helps. |
