Ok, I know C-mags are really not that great, would not trust them in a SHTF situation after reading military after action reports BUT (and this is a biggy). God they look cool and I want one. My question is this: Is it legal to pre-order a LE-only mag at current prices (lay-away/set-aside) before the sunset (on my knees, praying hard) or is it just up to the dealer whether or not he wants to screw you over for the big price blip. For those who want to know I am looking at doing some praire-dog popping with the C-mag and my M15(t) 24 inch. I am just being lazy not switching mags, but what the hell...h.gif |

1. No, you cannot legally "pre-order" LEO mags, and if you ask an FFL to do this, he'll probably throw you out of his store. 2. Beta has never sold mags to civilians. In the past, the only way they have gotten to the civilian market was via police buy-backs. Over the last few years, a few FFLs were buying brand-new LEO-only Beta mags and trading police departments for their used, pre-ban Betas. They then sold the pre-bans to normal folks. This is pretty much the way it will continue to work, except that after the ban, civilians could possess post-ban mags too. -Troy |

1. No, you cannot legally "pre-order" LEO mags I disagree. The law only says that non LEO/FFL can not POSESS said magazine after 9/14/94, nothing prohibits legal ownership/financial control over magazines. Possession is not defined as legal/$ ownership with no intent to take physical custody/control (e.g. it is illegal for someone to possess a machine gun which is not registered to them in the NFRTR, but that does not mean that people can not pay for, and "own" the rights to such weapons) As long as you are clear, via a sales agreement/contract that you do not intend to take possession of such mag until such time that it is lawful you should be alright. "and if you ask an FFL to do this, he'll probably throw you out of his store." Wow, really? That seems like a place that I would not want to shop. As long as you compensate him for his trouble, or he does it out of courtesey, there is nothing wrong with it in my view. 2. Beta has never sold mags to civilians. True, but where there is a will (read $$) there is a way. They will be available for much less money, as long as there is no perception of an impending reknewal/new legislation. |
Nothing wrong in my view either, however, should legislation run sour are customers still going to pay for merchandise they may never be able to take possession of? The ones with honor and who are willing to risk it maybe. Hopefully the dealer could get his money back from LE folks and then take the heat off the civvie. But it surely would be an extra aggravation for dealer who does not normally deal with LE people even if they were willing to go to the trouble. What a tangled web we weave when we practive to legislate stuff that should not legislated. |
