I am looking to build a varmint/precision rifle and i am not sure what barrel to use. I have looked at Noveske, WOA and a few others but they all seem to be a fairly light profile. Now, I am not against that, it is just in the kind of shooting I'll be looking to do with it I don't have to worry about the overall weight of the rifle. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to have to call some one to help me lift it when I want to shoot, but a 8-11lb gun is not a worry for me. What I need is a barrel that will toss good amunition accurately at a max of 400-500 yards (if I can shoot that accurately or not is something else.) I am not set on having a bull barrel or anything else, other than a very accurate shooting gun. My price range is as low as I can get, but I am willing to save if there is something reasonable that cost more. Thank you for your help.

I just don't wan't to save weight and sacrifice accuracy. I don't really intend to "carry it around." Not saying that this isn't the best out there, I just don't really know what is out there as far as good barrels for the AR-15. I haven't ever thought of 400-500 yards mid-range when talking about the 5.56/.223. I would like to have the skills to put my lead in little tight groups at farther distances if possible. Thanks for the help.

The thing is that it is unlikely you would see a serious advantage going to a heavier barrel at that distance. The SPR profile isn't exactly light anyway. My 18" SPR-barreled upper with rifle-length Troy handguard weighs about 10.5 lbs w/ optics. DCM service rifle shooter shoot out to 600 yards with government profile barrels and iron sights. If you are set on a bull barrel, look at RRA stainless bull barrels. If you have a lot of money to spend you could have someone do a custom barrel for you. |
